As a working class man, I've found one area that those who live under or at the poverty line need is reliable, responsible transportation. While taking my brother to the local low-cost health clinic, I saw a car break due to a CV axle that failed as they attempted to turn into the center. The elderly lady got out assessed the situation, got her older elderly passenger out the car and then walked 100 feet to the entrance. She looked back knowing that when she leaves from her doctors appointment, real life will be waiting broken or even towed because the car was in the intersection blocking traffic. This is an all too familiar sight. The families only mode of transportation is ailing or in poor mechanical condition but still needed to make appointments.
I have seen caregivings at the hemo-dialysis clinic lift car hoods to cool down overheating cars, I've seen them stranded because some life-giving fluid is dripping out if the engine of the car. Why can we not help those that are helping their people. Their are multiplied millions of cars in the US and world-wide, is it possible to begin a nonprofit mechanic service to keep cars going for the poor running. Without cars and trucks that function, the poor are forced to navigate public transit (if available in their hometowns) or walk. We've all seen the all too familiar site of a poor and disabled person walking to get to where they have to go. Heaven help us in a country that has so much. Please let's take care of the weak and vulnerable amongst us.
